Our 100% certified organic pistachios are available with or without shells. The kernels have a characteristically nutty flavour and are a bright green colour. Our organic pistachios contain high levels of protein, dietary fibre and fats.
Pistachios are a member of the cashew family, native to Central Asia and the Middle East. Today, they are cultivated in many other parts of the world, including Spain. The nuts are the seeds of the Pistacia vera tree, which can live to be up to 300 years old. In agriculture, the productivity of a tree is classified either as biennial bearing or alternate bearing. It is not uncommon for farmers to prune their trees quite intensely to simplify harvesting. In the production stage, pistachios are hulled, dried and then sorted according to their shell openings.
